Embedded Computing Machines Pvt. Ltd. (ECM) of Pune, India today announced the official release of their ARMadillo: The Embedded Linux Distribution around the Linux 2.6.16 kernel. ARMadillo is oriented towards support for ARM9 processors, specifically targetted at the i.MX series of processors and SOCs from Freescale. In addition to the standard components, this distribution has complete support for USB host and OTG controllers of the i.MX family (i.MX21 in particular) along with SDIO, CSI (eMMA), USB Mass storage and WiFi. The distribution is intended to readily support the ARMour computing platforms and associated peripheral boards, which form the integral part of the ECM product line.

"The release of ARMadillo has strategic importance for ECM, both in the business framework as well as the Open Source community. This earmarks an important milestone in the journey of ECM towards proving its dominance in the Embedded Systems domain.", said Mr. Vijay Iyengar, CEO of ECM. He also announced that not only shall ECM assume complete responsibility of supporting and maintaining this tree, but also the support for the higher order processors from the MX family, such as the i.MX27 and the i.MX31 series would be added to the ARMadillo very soon.
